WeatherTech Floor Liners for a Highlander With Captain’s Chairs

Do you have a new Highlander with 2nd row captain’s chairs? Are you looking for a good solution for keeping your floors clean? Something better than Toyota’s all-weather floor mats? If yes, then please read on…

As you’re likely aware…

I’m a huge fan of WeatherTech’s DigitalFit floor liners (see here, here, and here). But when they first introduced them for the new Highlander, the 3rd row floor liner was only compatible with a 2nd row bench seat.

WeatherTech Integrated Floor Liner for 2nd/3rd Row

This isn’t what it looks like…

Well, WeatherTech recently solved that problem by introducing a one-piece liner that covers the floor in both the 2nd and 3rd rows. Unfortunately, the photo that’s currently on their website (see photo on right) is the wrong one.

This picture makes it look similar to their minivan solution, which requires removal and re-installation of the captain’s chair to install the floor liner. In reality, their 2nd/3rd row liner for the Highlander can be placed around the seats, allowing for quick and easy installation.

Not sure what I mean? See below for a photo showing the actual design, courtesy of a reader named Jim, who got clarification (and photos) straight from WeatherTech.

WeatherTech's DigitalFit floor liners for rear captain's chairs...

The WeatherTech DigitalFit floor liners with rear captain’s chairs…

As you can see, it looks a bit like the separate 2nd and 3rd row liners except that there’s a piece connecting them that covers the walkthrough gap between the 2nd row captain’s chair.

If you already have the 1st row covered, the cost for the 2nd/3rd row combined liner is $89.95. Or you can buy complete set (1st row + 2nd/3rd row) for $199.90, which is a bargain compared to the $249.85 price tag for those of us with 2nd row bench seating.

The mats for the 2014/2015 do not require the captain’s chairs be removed. When I saw the pictures of the set on the WeatherTech site, I called the company about the fitment. They said the picture was in error and the seats do not need to be removed to install the 2nd/3rd row one-piece mat. They sent me the correct photos of the mats and on that basis I ordered them. Received them today — the one piece rear mat has a solid piece that lies between the captain’s chairs. Easy to install and remove for cleaning.

Good information Jim. Hopefully they update their pictures in the near future as I am having a hard time envisioning it.

Jim, I’ve updated the post above to reflect the new info. Thanks for letting me know, and also for sending the pics. 🙂
